Finding an Auditor
Finding an Auditor for Your NDIS Registration (Step-by-Step)
When you apply to become a registered NDIS provider, you will need to go through an audit. This is where an independent company checks your business to make sure it meets NDIS safety and quality rules.
The audit helps show that:
-
Your documents are ready
-
You understand your responsibilities
-
You can deliver services safely and professionally
But before the audit can happen, you need to find and book a qualified auditor.
๐ง What is an Auditor?
An auditor is a professional who checks your business. For NDIS registration, only Approved Quality Auditors (AQAs) are allowed to complete your audit. These auditors have been approved by the NDIS Commission.
The auditor is not trying to catch you out โ they are there to check your documents, talk to you about how your business will run, and help you become compliant.
๐งญ Step 1: Know What Type of Audit You Need
There are two types of NDIS audits:
โ Verification Audit
-
For low-risk supports like:
-
Cleaning
-
Support coordination
-
Plan management
-
Community access
-
-
Done off-site (no site visit)
-
Documents are reviewed online
-
Usually cheaper and faster
๐ก๏ธ Certification Audit
-
For higher-risk supports like:
-
SIL (Supported Independent Living)
-
Community nursing
-
Behaviour support
-
-
Done in two stages:
-
Stage 1 โ document review and online interview
-
Stage 2 โ on-site visit where they may interview staff and review participant files
-
-
More detailed and more expensive
Youโll receive a document called a Scope of Audit from the NDIS Commission after submitting your application. This tells you which audit you need.
๐ Step 2: Find Approved Auditors
You can only use auditors who are officially listed on the NDIS Commission website.
๐ View the full list here:
๐ NDIS Commission โ Approved Quality Auditors
This list includes:
-
Company name
-
Contact details
-
What states they work in
-
What types of audits they do
๐ธ Some only do Verification Audits, while others only do Certification Audits, so check before contacting them.
โ๏ธ Step 3: Contact Auditors and Request a Quote
Youโll need to email or call auditors and ask for a quote.
๐ฆ Be ready to send them:
-
Your Scope of Audit
-
Your application ID (from the NDIS portal)
-
Your ABN and business name
-
A list of the services you want to offer
-
Whether youโve started working with participants yet
๐ก Tip: Donโt wait for just one response. Contact at least 3 to 5 auditors to compare quotes and availability.
๐ฒ Step 4: Compare Prices and Choose
Every auditor sets their own fees. These can vary depending on:
-
Your state or location
-
The size of your business
-
The audit type (Verification is cheaper than Certification)
-
How fast you need the audit done
Make sure to ask:
-
How much will it cost?
-
What does the audit include?
-
How long will it take to complete?
-
Can they work with new providers?
Once youโre happy with a quote, you can book your audit and get started.
โณ How Long Does It Take?
-
Verification audits usually take 1 to 2 weeks
-
Certification audits can take a few weeks to a few months, depending on how quickly you can respond and provide documents
โฑ๏ธ Start this process early so your registration isnโt delayed.
